Assessments with Purpose

LAZR Dojo uses a competency-based, assessment-driven instructional model that blends project-based learning, mastery progression, and mentorship. Students advance by demonstrating understanding through real work, not by seat time or memorization.

Project-Based Learning (Authentic Tasks)

Students learn by building meaningful projects that reflect real creative and technical work.

  • Every skill is taught in context

  • Projects mirror real-world creative workflows

  • Learning has a clear purpose and outcome

Assessment-Based Mastery Paths (Competency Over Time)

Students progress through mastery paths guided by clear performance criteria.

Metacognition & Reflection (Learning How to Learn)

Students regularly reflect on their work by answering questions such as:

This builds self-awareness and transferable learning skills.

Student Capstone Project

Reimagining Minecraft in VR

In this signature LAZR Dojo project, students take inspiration from a familiar world (Minecraft) and learn to design, build, and reimagine their own interactive experience using the fundamentals of Unity or Unreal Engine. The result is a VR-based prototype that reflects each student’s creativity, teamwork, and growing technical skill.

Students will expand the concept by adding original features such as:

  • Custom cityscapes and themed environments

  • Off-road vehicles and interactive traversal

  • Original monsters, quests, and story elements

  • Player goals, rules, and progression systems

This project is taught in a structured way that turns big ideas into achievable steps—so students can succeed whether they’re beginners or advanced.

What Parents Will See (Tangible Outcomes)

By the end, students will have:

  • A playable VR prototype they helped create
